Biological Safety Cabinets
Biological Safety Cabinets are used to handle biohazardous compounds of biosafety levels 1, 2, 3 and 4. This is important as bioprocessing often involves handling of live viruses which may pose grave threat to operators and the environment.
There are different classes of BSCs differing in construction, airflow and cabinet exhaust. Depending on the class, BSCs can offer operator, environment, and sample protection. Class I cabinets offer operator and environment protection without product protection, while Class II and Class III cabinets offer all three protections. Class III cabinets offer maximum containment of biohazardous compounds, allowing them to be used for handling BSL-4 substances.
VacciXcell offers different Class I to Class III BSCs suited for different purposes.
The Airstream® Class I Microbiological Safety Cabinet offers user and environment protection when doing experiments with organisms that are assigned under Biosafety Levels 1, 2 and 3.
The Class II Type A2 biological safety cabinet is the most common Class II cabinet and is also the most common safety cabinet of all the different types available.
Labculture® Class II Type B1 Biosafety Cabinets are designed to provide operator, products and environmental protection in experiments where minute quantities of volatile toxic chemicals and trace amount of radionuclides are required as an adjunct to microbiological studies.
Class II B2 Biological Safety Cabinets can be used to handle BSL 1-3 biohazards and offer operator, product, and environment protection.
Esco Airstream Class III biohazard safety cabinets offer the highest level of product, operator and environmental protection from infectious/biohazardous aerosols and are suitable for microbiological work with agents assigned to biological safety levels 1, 2, 3, or 4.
